Second Hudson Tunnel 3 Alm Completed

Rival gangs of sandhogs worked toward the zero hour to hole through New York’s second vehicular tunnel under the Hudson. Death by own action note echoes in Missouri case

Canton Missouri August 1 AP relatives of Mandeville Zenge 26 a carpenter say a death by own action note found by a Chicago taxi driver was written by Zenge linking Nellie June and Lottie as kin with a $5000 life policy. Zenge sought in the Dr Walter Bauer Chicago slaying. Public hearing set August 19.

Alabaman Held for Violating Dyer Act

Jess Cates age 28 a Alabama native was held in the county jail charged with violating the Dyer act prohibiting interstate transportation of stolen automobiles. Cates was arraigned before United States Commissioner Edna Morris and pleaded not guilty then committed to jail in default of 1000 dollars bond.

Park Keeps Cool in Capitol with Ice-Cooled Chamber

Governor Park installed an air cooling machine in the executive chamber calling it the hot test office in the capitol. The device uses 150 pounds of ice daily, supplied by the state prison.

Trade treaty talks with Canada loom on Capitol Hill

On Capitol Hill reports say Canada seeks concessions on lumber cattle and wheat in a Canadian American trade treaty. Possible U S commitments to curb American wheat production are discussed informally. Officials would not comment, noting only informal conversations underway.

Over the last decade the United States ran a balance of about 3.69 billion dollars in its favor. From 1925 through 1934 Canada sold goods to the United States totaling 2.036 billion and purchased U S products valued at 5.72709 billion.

Man Held In Jail On Embezzlement Charge

Lester J. Beck former cashier of Burnett Chevrolet company remains jailed on embezzlement charges. Indicted by Cole county grand jury for a $219 theft. Beck was re-arrested after bond security was deemed insufficient. fingerprint comparison tied him to Elmira prison terms for rape. He was returned to Missouri from Kansas City.

State Purchases Two Lots Next to Prison

The state plans to expand its prison facilities after purchasing two adjoining parcels. Deeds were filed at the Cole County recorder's office, and the historic prison warehouse on Water Street is considered inadequate for growing needs. Stephen B. Warehouse expansion plans tied to lot purchases
