Neil Baker at Henwick Lane buys a poppy from Arla Badlesse and Linda Burton to launch a city campaign for Mid-Missouri Disabled American Veterans. Over 60 volunteers will sell red poppies Friday and Saturday as the American Legion auxiliary and others join the effort.
London AP reports the Church of England plans a new home for compulsive gamblers this year. The facility will house men from prisons and psychiatric institutions as part of recovery efforts.

State auditor Christopher Bond said the Albany audit could not report the city’s finances from April 1, 1969 to March 31, 1969 due to absent formal accounting records. The report cites reliance on carbon copies of checks and partial cash books, noting tests could not be completed and loans and deposits may violate state laws and constitutional requirements.
