Philadelphia reports an insurance murder ring may have used brutal methods beyond poisoning. A widow, Marie Wolosyn, 41, is charged with homicide in her husband’s January 1936 death, allegedly after a lead pipe strike and deliberate run over.
Witness Harbaugh testified about his time alone with osteopath Dr. LaMance in Kansas City and later trips as the wife’s disappearance unfolded. He described visits to LaMance acquaintances in Laclede and a move toward the evangelist parents in Manitou Springs, noting the body discovery occurred three days before the husband reported the wife missing.

In Little Rock Arkansas on April 27 AP says District Judge Trimble took under advisement a $57,000 claim filed by the John I Rees estate of St Louis against assets of the bankrupt Cherokee Public Service Co The claim rests on a mortgage held by Beggs on Wagoner Gas Company a Cherokee subsidiary Attorneys have five days to file briefs Joe H Schneider referee in bankruptcy denied the claim noting the mortgage and the estate involve SiR Morgan the imprisoned former utility operator serving 10 years for mail fraud.
Washington April 27 The house military committee agreed to recommend legislation to bar Grover Cleveland Bergdoll from returning to the United States from his exile in Germany The measure targets deserters who fled to escape punishment and were convicted before. The panel trimmed the scope to avoid applying the law to future wars. London April 27 AP Prime Minister Chamberlain warned the labor opposition against forcing a general election amid debate on the emergency conscription bill. He said an election could delay vital measures, weaken munitions output, and distract government departments. He stressed war is not imminent but warned a small shift could decide whether war comes.
The prime minister urged higher taxes on the very wealthy and harsher penalties for profiteering during war. He proposed a broader system to capture all profits from war, not just those in araments, arguing opposition criticism and past leaders' views distort the government’s stance.
