State and county candidates rush to file as diverse slate lines up for Missouri Senate seats across districts. Democrats contest diverse districts with familiar veterans and new faces while Republicans nominate known figures in St Louis and rural counties. Local observers note Marion and Boone County races highlighting shifts toward varied coalitions.
In a late Baton County filing rush Tuesday three candidates joined the public administrator race, two Democrats and one ag Republican seeking the post. Democrat Price Spencer Thomas filed for county surveyor seeking a second four year term, while Ronald Lee Jordan filed for administrator and will face Robert R. Pratt in August. Leslie Twitchel of Russellville also filed for administrator as an independent ally seeks broad party support.
Gov. Warren E. Hearnes signed Tuesday the 30th a “Safe Halloween” bill making it a felony to insert dangerous substances into food with intent to harm. The measure carries up to 20 years in prison for violators and was among 10 bills signed, raising his total to 51.

Rep. W. E. Blackwell Democrat from Hermann filed for re election in the new 120th district. He won a dosel victory two years ago in a heavily Republican seat and plans to push highways and roads, expanded industry, help for young farmers and small communities, and easing elderly burdens. He favors talking with voters during the campaign and has opposed raises for officials and judges while supporting drug abuse education and opposing pension increases.
