Government weighs copper and brass price guidance
Washington April 25 AP Federal price Administrator Leon Henderson said the government would not set an immediate ceiling on copper or brass ingot prices but urged a 12 cent per pound reduction for primary and secondary copper. He described a watchful waiting approach while warning that steps may follow if producers cannot implement the suggestions. OPA met with copper and brass ingot firms as producers argued prices largely reasonable though a minor sector sold at outside quotes up to 1345 cents. Outside copper and scrap prices moved together, with ingot prices sometimes exceeding what was deemed reasonable. The first American nickel, minted in 1868, has risen to billions in circulation.
