Clerk and Wife Under Suspicion in City Hall Fire

Garland county grand jury met in special session to probe a fire that damaged the city hall of Hot Springs. City Clerk Few Fowler and his wife were jailed without charges as investigation and an audit of Fowler’s books proceed under Mayor Mc Laughlin. Mrs Fowler had earlier been arrested for shooting at Mrs Henry Terry and wounding Mrs Nettie Connelly. a preliminary hearing was set.

A fire in Orrick Missouri caused about 10000 dollars in damage to several business buildings early today. The blaze is thought to have started in a barber shop building with an apartment above and the post office was among the structures damaged.

Jean Cox a 19 year old Wichita skater is hospitalized with a fractured arm after being struck by a car on a highway near Jonesburg Missouri. The auto mobile did not stop and two of her team mates Kenneth Harlan 21 and Beth 24 will remain in the city until Cox can continue her journey from Wichita to New York.

Rain Not Heavy Enough To Trigger Major Floods Across Midwest

Rain spread in a wide belt over the middle west but rainfall was not heavy enough to cause floods like those that damaged Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma.
