The Massachusetts Federation of Taxpayers Associations urged closing four of the nine state teachers colleges as graduates exceed available positions. Governor Saltonstall’s secretary backed the move as an economy measure, citing surplus graduates. The report notes 71 percent of the world’s registered automobiles are in the United States. In Santa Fe Rosie Gutierrez pleads guilty to parking in a prohibited zone and pays the fine with Magistrate Lorenzo Gutierrez.
Kansas City report notes Charles Carollo dubbed the big man of a massive gambling racket. A federal mail fraud indictment is described as preliminary with more possible charges to follow. County grand jury already charged him with keeping a gambling device at the Fortune, run by Zermansky and Morris. Records show Fortune profits ranging from 300 to 1140 dollars daily, with recent months listing over 17,000 dollars in profits.

Ralph Affelder, 27, was found guilty of armed robbery by a circuit court jury in Bloomfield, Missouri, and sentenced to ten years in prison. He was the third defendant sentenced in the Malden area January 1938 robbery case. His bride of 12 days testified about supposed letters from Pontiac, Michigan, but they could not be produced. Obed Mallory and Floyd Crews had earlier received ten year terms.
