Sam Beard, a Black man, was arrested in Caruthersville Missouri on charges of murdering farmer Charles T. Jones. Jones was beaten and his body dumped on railroad tracks to fake a train death. Beard also faced charges of assault with intent to kill Lonnie Pulliam who was present during the attack.
Springfield April 1 AP Governor Louis L. Emmerson approved the extradition of Clarence Gibbs from Filton Missouri to Callaway county jail to face trial for alleged bank robbery and escape. Gibbs allegedly aided escaped convict Fred Vannay who fled jail in October 1930.
Samuel Insull Edward Hurley and Charles McCulloch were named receivers of the Middle West Utilities Company at bond of 100000 each by Federal Judge Walter Lindley. The action followed equity proceedings filed by Thurlow Essington for Lincoln Printing Company, with Insull named due to his utility leadership and company knowledge.
Insull described that 30 states and Canada are served by electric light and power, gas, water, heating and transport firms with earnings near 9182 billion.
