A Greek tanker Manuela carrying 12,000 tons of oil reached Durban after a pilot was aboard and space to berth was awaited. The vessel had been intercepted near Berbnja by the British frigate Berwick amid reports of oil movement linked to Rhodesia.

C B Ratchford vice president for extension at the University of Missouri will speak at the Jefferson City Lions Club noon meeting in the Missouri Hotel. Buel Vincent and son David of Holts Summit reported to authorities after a gun theft incident. Ratchford named director of extension in 1959 and became dean of the extension division after formation, then served as vice president for extension from 1965. They were captured later by Missouri Highway Patrolman on U S 63 near Westphalia, offering no resistance.
