City Collector John Sturm reported the 1949 fiscal year ending April total at 371,172.64, up 4,085.73 from 1948. March brought in 124,020.36 as delinquent charges and various licenses pushed funds into multiple city accounts.
Kansas City, April 11 AP The city council passed a resolution urging Gov. Forrest Smith to investigate law enforcement amid a rash of gangland killings. The move followed the funeral of Charles Gargotta and Charles Binaggio, slain leaders in a spate of violence since January 1946. Governor Smith said he had not received the resolution and offered no comment.
Washington April 11 AP Architect Lorenzo Winslow said he plans to anticipate future presidents requests for private alterations to the White House. He noted past occupants added features without advice and that current reconstruction aims to allow for future needs. He reported progress is faster than expected and completion may come by Christmas 1951. The Latter-day Saints church was organized in Fayette, Md., in 1830 with six charter members.
