18 Prisoners Escape Florida Jail Break Leads to Manhunt
In Jacksonville on April 8, fifteen black prisoners fled the Cavan county jail by removing bars from a third floor window and sealing the courtyard wall. Two escapees Alvin Tyler and James Baker were charged with a double murder. Hershey Plant Workers Return After Riot at Factory
About 1,800 Hershey Chocolate workers returned to the ivy covered plant in Hershey Pennsylvania as deputies and Legion members patrolled. Earlier a violent clash erupted when farmers and loyal workers drove out hundreds of sit down strikers with whips clubs and iron bars. Governor Earle ordered an investigation and said the sheriff failed to call state police to prevent bloodshed. Twenty five combatants required hospital treatment and many others were treated at homes.

In Charlottesville Virginia Judge Lemuel Smith sentenced Dr Richard G Miller a 53 year old dentist to 16 years in prison on a second degree murder plea in the chloroform death of 18 year old Cleo Sprouse from 1935 to 1937 records show he gave her chloroform. Prosecutor W Fife said the act amounted to murder while performing an abortion and urged the plea to second degree murder.
