Week at school with visitors and events in focus

Visitors during the week included Miss Dena Patterson, Grace Gulick, Fern Westop, and Axie Phipps. Absent half day or more were Crate Teeter, Murry Tullman, Esty Bucky, Grace Greenwool, and Elsie Kvesham. Rev W T Medearis led assembly Tuesday morning. The seventh and eighth grades hosted visitors. An extemporaneous debate titled Resolvers that international peace is practicable featured Ray Webb for affirmative and Bryan Brown for negative. affirmative won. Fern Thacker gave Friday’s noon story, Two old women. The Baconian Society hosted an engaging program this year. A basketball game Saturday night drew a large crowd, Jasper Neh school team winning. L G Reser, Methodist College president at Marignyille, spoke to the school Monday. address well received.

Ten Years Ago In Jasper City Briefs

Ten years ago in Jasper City W H Larrick of Kingsley Iowa visits his brother R R Larrick Jaxpee’s first automobile appears on the streets as a home projection by Hardenbroo Rice Lee Garst who left for Colorado in March to seek a location. The headquarters of James B Ward Post G A R are now in the hall over Hendricks store. A camping party of Chas Spaid and wife Elmer Lauderbaugh and wife Mont Furfield and wife camp near the mouth of Possum Creek for a fishing outing. A number of Eastern Star members attend a school of instruction in Joplin led by Mrs Kila Jean Flanders of Kansas City. The funeral of Mrs Elaabeth Bayles held Friday morning for carbon monoxide poisoning. A wagon load of fruit jars on the railroad track and a near-miss with a passenger train near 6 o'clock Tuesday evening. Ben Frick returns from Gem City Idaho to visit parents Jacob Frick and wife after visiting Klondike since last visit.

Death of Mrs Tilley Near Boston

Mrs Lizzie Tilley wife of William Tilley who lives one mile south of Boston died at her home at 10 oclock Monday morning She was a sister of J L Beager of Jasper.

Dr. LG Reser, president of Marionville College in Missouri, occupied the pulpit at the M. and Church last Sunday morning and evening. His addresses were noted as very pleasing and appreciated by listeners.

Alpha Club Meeting Reviews Pioneer Texts

Alpha Club met with Mrs. H. E. Ballard on Tuesday afternoon. Topics included a roll call on pioneers, a review of "The Early Pathfinders," a paper by Mrs. Gus Campbell on progress after the Revolution, readings on "The Pilgrim Fathers" and "The Pioneers" by Cooper, and "First Thanksgiving Proclamation" by Mr. Ballard. Jasper and Sarcoxie Rally for Oddly Scored Basketball Tilt

Under Superin tendent Hurt and Principal Cline the Jasper high school staged a pleasing opera house program then a basketball game with Sarcoxie. Jasper won 46 to 18 led by Lester Goddard with 22 points. Dunbaul of Sarcoxie fouled out, Masters injured his knee, and Roy Webb finished the last quarter. The program featured debates, solos, papers, and a variety of student performances.

Penny fun club meeting highlights embroidery and social amusements

The Taka Chile Het gathered at Mere John Marsh's home last Wednesday afternoon with all members present. The program featured a Penny puzzle activity, prizes awarded to Mrs F W Scott and Mrs C E Teeter, followed by a three course lunch prepared by the Marsh and Lughond households. Tables were dressed with vegetables and a white cabbage centerpiece, adding charm to the decorations. The hostesses were praised for their meticulous hospitality.

Revival at Bethel on Jasper circuit of M. E. Church

Revival meetings at Bethel continue with strong interest. Rev W C Thompson pastors the Jasper circuit and Mr Thompson preaches, with Rev Mallory also active. Through Monday night the community has seen 29 conversions, mostly adult men and women.

Miss Katherine Conroy Dead in Olathe Home

Miss Katherine Conroy of Olathe died at Captain J Clark’s East Park Street home after an illness described as heart trouble following a pneumonopia attack. Born in 1862 in Illinois, she lived in Olathe many years, connected with Rebekah and Royal Neighbor Lodges, and will be buried beside her parents in Jasper Missouri after services in Olathe.
