Miss Dorothy Patterson spent Monday night with her cousin Miss Aretha Patterson and attended the Hallowe en party at the High School.
Premium list for the Jasper Fair covers Jersey and Holstein cattle with awards for best bull and cow in multiple age groups. Names such as Oscar Fasken O Thompson Roy Tiler Mrs C O Wine and Wm Wood appear among winners. The balance of the list is continued elsewhere in this issue due to numerous figures and names from the secretary’s books.
Mrs Alice Keltner and her mother Mrs Ruckel returned from Mound Valley Kansas where Irs Keltner had been under specialist care the past month. Friends are delighted she is in fair way to regain health. The pie supper and Blue school house program Friday night October 29 drew a large crowd and fine music. Fiona Talley and Jim Smith won prizes. A total of 26.51 was raised for the school.
In Jasper County the Republican ticket swept the election with a strong showing by U.S. Senator Spencer and Harding. Precinct results show Republican leads for president, U.S. Senate, governor, and numerous state and local offices. The vote totals reflect high female participation and a decisive party turnout. Also noted is the marriage of Miss Mae Wood of Jasper to Herbert Lippincott in Battle Creek Michigan on October 14 with plans to reside in a new home at 91 Bowen Avenue.
Miss Rodgers the county Red Cross nurse examines Jasper School students and praises their health. High School girls host a Halloween party for the boys and faculty. Supt. Thomas spent time in Springfield with the Teacher's Convention. Nettie Kiethly absent. Lena Wiseman filled in. October attendance dipped while enrollment rose. Lyceum tickets selling fast. Emma Cline returned from Hot Springs and accompanied her brother-in-law to Kansas City for a St. Luke's Hospital feeding.
Building material costs have fallen from peak levels with notable declines in lumber and other items though sand dates and cement remain high. Manufacturers say lumber sells below production cost now, suggesting prices may rise soon. cement and sand are unlikely to drop this year as road demand could push spring prices higher. Call to discuss budgeting and planning while markets ease.
Miss Florence Turner was brought home Monday evening from Carthage Hospital where she underwent minor surgery Saturday for a minor trouble.
