The Rev Francis I Rowman a Wheeling West Virginia priest sues The Menace Publishing Co Aurora Missouri in federal court at Joplin alleging an October 4 1913 issue attacked his character seeking 25000 compensatory and 25000 punitive damages. The case is set for the June term.
An elderly man named William Joseph Beam, years old, was instantly killed when struck by a northbound Missouri Pacific passenger train near Carytown around 6 am Sunday. He was seen wandering the tracks shortly before the incident. A woman from Carytown aided him, but he continued his journey alone until the fatal crash. Funeral services were held at Krell Chapel with Pastors and local relatives in attendance. The report also notes racing events at the Jasper driving club track with several winners and ongoing community observations.
The Takas held their final meeting of the season at Mrs. A. Lear's home on Wednesday. The decorated house featured a pink and white May pole with snowballs. Contests honored Mrs. W A Woods and Mrs. T B Hardaway. A two course luncheon followed, with Mrs. Lear assisted by Mrs. H W Sharp and Mrs. E W Scott. Guests included Mrs. J C Gibson of Chetopa Kans, Mrs. J D Harbur, Mrs. Earl, and Mr. F P Lear.
At a Monday board meeting HP Pitts was elected president replacing T H Tiller who resigned. Pitts had purchased Tiller’s shares last month and will assume the role immediately.
