Heavy Hail Storm Wreaks Havoc Across Mississippi Valley

A fierce hail storm last Thursday swept the Mississippi Valley with widespread damage. The villages of Golden in Barry County suffered near total destruction from a tornado, while gardens and fruit crops including strawberries and cherries were decimated. Windows, stock, and possibly human lives were affected as hailstones averaged half an inch, then larger in a second fall lasting minutes. The storm brought heavy rain, a drop in temperature, and a severe cold front. Lamar and Preston reported worse hail, with distinct cloud banks delivering the blows. North of Dublin escaped hail entirely.
