In a Friday night melee at Sarcoxie the Jasper basketball team faced a disturbance when a Barcozie player struck Crawford after Jasper’s early 6 point burst. Officials halted play, suspending action as Superintendent Moon spoke, praising the Jasper players’ discipline and condemning the rough conduct. Moon notes the need to select opponents carefully to protect the sport’s standing.
After two minutes of play a Barooxie boy struck Crawford on the neck in a vicious attack. A Sarcoxie center rushed Crawford. A blow to the face followed as players and spectators intervened. The marshal halted play but allowed resumption. the Jasper boys kept calm. No rowdyism occurred and Sarcoxie residents treated visitors well next morning.
Jasper county tests asphalt paving on a Maple street sample block between Second and Third streets to show the material’s potential. The surface has been rolled today after rain delays, with a 15 ton roller from Webb City proving heavy for heat but useful for packing foundation rock. A lighter roller is favored for finishing and local repairmen offer old harness making at Wolf’s by skilled craftsmen.
A Kansas City Star article notes a remarkable farm within sight of Jasper, Missouri in the Ozarks. The tableland summit is enclosed by an intact fence, unreachable by animals, with a sheer drop to surrounding terrain. The farmer accessed it by a cliff ledge, cleared soil, raised crops and livestock, and brings animals down a private trail to reach Jasper.
The Klondike rush is duplicated as 3,500 prospectors converge on Rawhide Nevada, midway between Reno and Tonopah. Eight auto lines serve the camp with four newspapers and three banks already operating. Tent hotels rent beds in eight hour shifts. gold samples suggest extraordinary richness with ore reported up to $50,000 per ton.
