The Sarcoxie Record notes editor Barney Finn will enter the race for Jasper County circuit clerk. Supporters praise his record weekly and expect him to offer faithful, efficient service if elected, despite doubts about his past reluctance to seek public office.
Retail sugar dealers are told that 4 ld cents per pound is the maximum price and that sugar should be sold for less when freight and other costs allow. Retailers may profit only one cent per pound over delivered cost, per I. B. Munford.
News from Webb City reports the birth of a baby girl to Norval Gray and his wife Mrs Gray who was formerly Miss Mayme Corder of Jasper.
Harvest labor pours in as farmers plan wage agreements and logistics. Secretary Bert Webb mobilizes 25,000 day offers across several states to secure first class hands, enabling rapid harvesting. Local workers and family effort keep costs moderate while production expected to reach full tide if fair weather lasts. Estimated average yield around 20 bushels per acre with thrashing to follow.
Flour dealers must cap sales at six pounds per person per month, so a family of four may receive up to 24 pounds at a time. Town households cannot buy more than 24 pounds in one sale, farm households 49 pounds. Farm families of four or fewer may buy one 24-pound sack at a time. Every purchase must include an equal substitute, with the fifty fifty rule in effect until after the next harvest.
Neil Mikesell of the Blue Star district announced that his last of five sons has joined Uncle Bam's fighting forces. Milton Mikesell, who lives near Lee's Summit, enlisted in the Army last week, leaving three sons in the Navy and two in the Army.

By order of President Wilson all German women and girls over 14 in the United States must register between June 17 and June 26. Registrations vary by location with police stations for cities and towns and postmasters for rural routes. American married to Germans generally not required if married before April 6, 1917. naturalized or US-born women are American citizens. Failure to register may lead to detention or deportation. Each registrant must provide four unmounted photos with signatures and will receive a registration card. Citizens of Austria-Hungary or other allies are exempt.
A wartime Red Cross fund drive letter thanks Preston Township and Carthage Chapter leaders for their part in the Second War Fund Drive. It notes about 15 000 dollars subscribed in country districts and a total of 34 00 dollars by Carthage and Eastern Jasper County Chapter. The letter is signed by I Bf Noken and June HK Jess.
