Jasper considers bond election for electric light plant plan
City officials in Jasper discuss a bond election to fund a light plant project with options including a municipal plant, a stock company, or a line to Empire Co. A three-member committee would appraise the light property for possible city purchase if bonds pass. A favored plan would connect to Empire Co supplying power and town service, with around 40,000 needed for transmission and equipment. Proposals aim to reduce fire risk and improve water service, potentially lowering insurance costs and ending kerosene lighting. The outcome depends on ordinances and voter support.
