William N. Cline and Annie St. Bowers, Jasper’s well known residents, married last Thursday at A Cline residence with W M Moore conducting. Only Mr and Mrs A Cline witnessed the ceremony as the couple left for Nebraska to visit a daughter.
A light vote occurred last Wednesday in the Jasper school district bond election. The proposition to authorize the board to issue 2000 bonds to fund a new heating plant and new classroom furniture received 46 votes for and 10 against.
In 1917 the Patriot recalls patriotic effort without night rides. Instead neighbors dug with spades to grow ten bushels of taters. The verse honors teamwork and home front labor during wartime.
The Reaper Death has visited Almond Stebelin Lodge of Jasper and taken sister Addie G Baker. The lodge resolves her loss as a valuable member and pledges sympathy and care to her family. A lodge page will be devoted to her memory, the charter draped in mourning, and the family given copies of these resolutions. Signed by Bessie Embree Lillie Bowers Nettie Harbur.
Jasper Commercial Club members and local farmers gathered with C L Hayzlett and Bert Webb in Carthage to secure funding for a five mile east west road from Jasper to the Barton County line and west from the Jasper Schoolhouse to Dayal Township. The county court pledged almost enough money, with $500 already subscribed by the club, leaving about $409 still needed to complete the project this year amid high grain prices and wartime demand. Support urged from all farmers who benefit, to prevent delays that could push the work ahead by years.
Riley King died July 17 after long illness, ending over 50 years in the Jasper County area. A large funeral crowd accompanied the remains from the King home five miles southwest of Jasper to Brethren Cemetery Baseline. The services were led by Rev. W T Wright and Rev. Dalton with Jasper Lodge No. 68 A F and A M in charge at the graveside. Woodmen of the World members attended. Music by a local choir. He was 50 years, 1 month and 16 days old, leaving a wife and four children Homer King of Carthage Clarence A and Wilford F King in the neighborhood and Mrs F M Chandler of Chicago. He also left a brother F M King and sisters in Arkansas and Kangag. The family has community sympathy.

Henry Winder and his wife are showered with congratulations on the birth of twins, a boy and a girl weighing eight pounds one ounce, born Thursday morning July 19 at their home eight miles northeast of Jasper. Dr. Knott says both babies are thriving.

Miss Kittie Wolfe daughter of Dr and Mrs Wolfe and sister of Frank and Robert Wolfe living east of Jasper has enlisted as a Red Cross nurse and arrived in London to begin active work. A professional nurse she spent the past year in New York City for Red Cross duties. She wrote her mother and left a letter with a New York friend to be mailed after cabled arrival in Europe.
