John W Rex Dead In Lamar After Declining Health
John W Rex longtime county treasurer and prominent local figure died at his Lamar home last Thursday evening after a yearlong decline in health. The funeral was held in Jasper with a large delegation from Samar and burial in the local cemetery. Rex, born in Morgan County Ohio September 1 161, was married to Eliantert Mood and left eight children, four daughters and four sons. He and his wife moved west and settled near Jasper before 1887, later taking the county treasurer post in 1901. He built a 460 acre farm and was known for steady success and strong business foresight. He was nominated for county treasurer in 1900 and won, with later re nominations.
