Pity Over Open Walpons Sparks Stotte City Attack
A miner named Tom Griffith was mortally wounded in Stotte City after receiving a quart of liquor on a morning train. He was attacked by several miners while returning home and an attempted theft led Marshal Wheeler to shoot Griffith in the stomach to quell the fight. Griffith was taken to Carthage hospital and likely to die. others were injured by knife wounds.

Arrested Wrong Man Man Boots Mistaken Identity in Sarcosie Case
Matechal Frank Boots arrested a young man named Gulick who came from Barcoxzie claiming to be the wanted suspect in a Sarcosie assault. Gulick proved he was the brother of the real suspect and was released. The assault on a 15 year old girl by four Bargorie youths occurred last Thursday week. two youths including Gulick were later said to be among those involved, with others at large.

Fifty Years of Marriage Celebrated at Jasper Farm
The fiftieth anniversary of I Y Byers and Sarah E McWhirter was observed on February 9 at their country home fourty four miles west of Jasper. Guests from several cities attended, with decorations in yellow and white and a four course dinner. The couple married in Owensburg Indiana on February 9 1860 and moved to Jasper County in 1876. Numerous relatives were present including Byers children and grandchildren, with many gifts received and a presentation speech by Mr. Stewart of Carthage.
