Hickman Won Out In Jasper County Court Case
The Jasper county court dispute between the Presiding Judge and two associates reached mandamus stages. Judge Perkins ruled for the Presiding Judge, voiding payment to constable Murphy for alleged mirage and fees. The decision found the circuit court could review charges, that the constable’s salary precluded extra fees, and that the county court had no authority to approve criminal costs not certified by a circuit judge and prosecuting attorney. The filing warned against similar acts by other judges. Also noted were social events, a change in Hilo headquarters, a visit by FE W Beott, a family reunion on Christmas Day, and local notices including a used organ for sale.
