Moses Gresham Read Death Removes Jasper Elder

Monte Jacob Greaham died Thursday evening at his home in Jasper's east end from complications of old age. He was among the town's oldest settlers and highly respected citizens. He spent his early years farming and had not worked in years. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Presbyterian church with Rev. Empleton delivering the sermon. Interment followed at Salem Cemetery. He is survived by his wife and four children William, Jobo, Seth, and Martha, all living nearby.

Life Sentence for Lacey at Carthage Court

Henry Lacey was found guilty of first degree murder in Carthage for killing W. W. Parker at Webb City weeks earlier, mistaking Parker for Claude Whitn cett. He admitted aiming to kill Whitn cett, claimed Parker was a friend, and the jury rejected that defense. Parker suffered from pulmonary disease and faced a penitentiary sentence.

Presbyterians Christmas Cantata Moves to Opera House

Due to limited church space the Presbyterian Sunday school Christmas cantata will be at the opera house at 8 o clock Christmas night. Reserved seats for members and patrons are distributed next Sunday or from Pastor J. B. Stapleton or Superintendent G. W. Pacer. Seats held until 7:50. No admission fee.

Accident injures man and boy in Jasper area

Arthur Strecker of six miles east of Jasper accidentally shot himself in the left leg while cleaning a revolver on Sunday. The bullet passed through the limb above the knee. Dr. Knott reports the patient is improving. J. J. Bear’s seven year old son Sidi fractured his thigh after a porch fall. Schooler and King aided, with a six week recovery seen as likely.
