New Legion Head Mason City Man Is Named National Commander
Mason City Iowa selects Mason City native Hanford MacNider as the new National Commander of the American Legion. At 34 he becomes the youngest to hold the post and is praised as a natural leader who will keep the Legion lean and American while supporting veterans and the disabled. MacNider served as a lieutenant colonel in World War I, wounded at St Mihiel, and later worked as an investment banker before his Legion leadership.
