Drought Ends As Rains Spark Barn Fires

W C Thomas narrowly escaped injury after a jitney collided with a northbound Missouri Pacific passenger train on Carthage Street. The driver, Murch, failed to stop in time. all three passengers leaped to safety as the car was wrecked. The train struck the front end and whirled the vehicle off the track. The driver crawled free from the wreckage as rescue crews arrived. Overnight, thieves stolen valuables from a nearby location.
