A Tuesday night storm brought heavy wind to Jasper, stripping fruit from trees and damaging roofs. The Brown Cafe lost a large plate glass pane, shattering it into pieces and costing about $125 to replace.
The M E Church South announces a basket meeting in Salem on Sunday August 31 with preaching at 11 am and 230 pm old time. Sam G Keys pastor. sale bills available at News office. Notice to the Public barber shops in Jasper close 730 pm daily and midnight Saturdays starting September 1. all persons must comply.
Fifteen local Odd Fellows traveled from Jasper to Adrian Tweeday to assist in initiating Glen Holmes into the order. After degree work by Jasper, Adrian Lodge with the Rebekahs hosted a splendid banquet. Named travelers included Omer Webb, E. W. Scott, Chas Teeter, Fred Merrel, Frank Kauffman, Rue Webb, Holmes, Walter Tabler, Hull, Arlo Katey, Andrews, Chas Crow, Buve Coiner, E. L. Brown.
Glendene Irene Simmons, age 6, daughter of Clarence and wife, died after a three week illness at the family home six miles southeast of Jasper. Funeral Sunday at Salem Church with Rev. Sam G. Keys preaching, burial in Brethren Cemetery. Pallbearers listed and local community offers sympathy.
Wm J Sweezy, agent from Quapaw Oklahoma writes to Mr Arthur F Drake Jasper Missouri sending a subscription payment. He expresses regret at hearing of Dye Sunderland's death and offers sympathy to Sunderland's family due to pastoral ties and shared farm life. He notes news from home is appreciated and misses funeral notice.
Harold Richardson of Jasper Tire Service married Miss Edith Morrow of Asbury in Carl Junction last Sunday evening. The couple, popular locals, are staying with Mrs. Ed Wardlow and will move soon to a house on East Grand Avenue.
C W Bedell sold his 40 acre home place located about three quarters of a mile east of the high school to Mr Wiseman of Geneva Indiana for 7000 dollars. The property is described as one of the best 40 acres in Jasper County and admired by travelers. Bedell has not announced plans but hopes not to move far away due to local friendships.
Rev. J. W. Moore reports his son J. P. Dunigo is steadily improving from a Barnes Hospital operation in St. Louis. He gets up and walks a little and has no pain, hoping for discharge by month’s end. This good news delights Mr. Moore’s Jasper friends.
The district forecasts a large attendance for the new school year led by Supt. Thomas and board president C. L. Hayzlett. They are recruiting new students and expect record enrollment. New and returning teachers are named, with Thomas in the central office and McMurtrey handling mathematics and athletics. Renewals and new subscribers listed from local communities.
