Death of a Jasper County woman and county notices
Death of former Jasper County resident Sarah Jane Irving Lay is reported with her birth in Columbus Ohio March 22 1875 and death August 1 in Ringgold County Iowa at age 60 years 4 months 20 days She was the daughter of Charles and Mary Irving and one of eight children Her family moved from Guernsey County Ohio to southern Illinois in 1861 and to Ringgold County Iowa in 1845 She was a charter member of the Mont Ayr Presbyterian Church later joined the Methodist Church and married Luther C Lay September 1 1874 They had eight living children Mary Parker Homer Oveda Lee Corwin Joseph Luel la and John Her death followed heart failure with husband and most children at her side Funeral services were held August 4 at home by Rev J B Holman and Rev Hardaway with interment at Rose Hill cemetery Jefferson City. Separate items note pardons for several convicts including Luther Johnson Roy Tucker Joseph Foster Walter Gray Frank Welling Carl Dorrell and others with various county court finances and inquest costs listed Also included are advertising cost figures from major newspapers and a local business note offering school supplies and Star Brand Shoes Are Better.

High water floods the fairgrounds forcing a one week postponement. The Jasper County Fair will reopen next Tuesday with plans to keep the aeroplane display and horse races.
