An itinerant peddler, disliked by Jasper ladies, was detained by Frank Bootsast Thursday and told to depart on the next train or face city actions. He paid the assessed fine but clung to the depot platform from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. awaiting a northbound train. This is not the first offender in the area, with Pitts for school books noted as a prior example.
A farmer L. Smith on the old Shoopman place near Jasper reports a mare stolen last Monday night. Evidence suggests a culvert in a cornfield was cut to permit passage, with wire repaired at both cuts. A $50 reward is offered for capture, conviction, and return of the horse. 620 is also mentioned. The note includes a long, odd letter from a Montreal bicycle firm apology about saddles and trade. Weather news notes drought roughness and a heavy rain event near town, with further falls hoped for to help corn.

An auto party en route to Carthage brought news of an upcoming 800 mile Star Cup auto race through Jasper and Kansas City, with the Pathfinder car expected to pass through soon.
A widow Mia Stevenson and her eight year old daughter from Aurora Lils travel to Purcell on a letter said to be from her brother Tom Gunn promising a meet at 6:20 train. He does not appear and the search for him extends as locals recall a man by that name once lived nearby. The tale leaves the pair penniless and seeking aid, with suspicions of a deceitful brother-in-law toward whom punishment seems warranted.
The Koell fair in Carthage draws steady Jasper turnout all week with Tuesday and Wednesday crowds increasing. Attendees report the fair as the best ever and a strong Jasper representation.
