Postmaster T. J. Hardaway notes correspondents must mail their letters Monday to reach the office Monday evening. The item lists several addressees including Miss Neva Straup, Mise Flossy Coop, Mr. W H Thomson, Mrs. Carrie K White, Miss Ruby Derry, and Mr H Mont Bell.
Auction notices list sales on Friday August 15 at J H Selsor farm 54 miles northeast of Jasper. Frank Selsor Vernie Kay offer 11 horses 5 cattle 11 hogs hay 100 bushels oats household goods and furniture with C F Mex as auctioneer. On Tuesday August 22 John Hartley sells at old WY Byers farm 1b miles west and south of Jasper 11 horses and mules 6 cattle 9 hogs timothy hay 100 bushels oats and farm implements with C F Rex as auctioneer.
A local publisher describes nationwide distress in the newspaper industry due to soaring paper costs and limited supplies. He notes rising subscription prices, reduced page sizes, and fewer features as outlets struggle. Last Sunday neighbors gathered near a spring on the George Earl farm with June baskets and ice cream freezers. After lunch and much ice cream the day ended with social time and a list of attendees including Allan Buerge family George Waltz family Charley Stith wife and son Virgil J J Lane wife Will Lane wife and sons Willie Theodore Walter Moulton family Jacob Scott family Mrs Hendrix Meredith Hendrix Nancy Lucy Hendrix Capitola Cavenee and Glenn Owings.
Mrs. F M Conrad announces the coming marriage of her daughter Miss Mayme Bell to Estill Swearingen from Chicago, traveling for a large wholesale house. Swearingen is from Joplin and the couple is described as highly fortunate. Miss Lillian Magers of Kansas City returns from visit with G M Magers northeast of Jasper, with a 50-person party held in her honor. Rebecca Crow and Mrs Irvin Murray shop in Kansas City for millinery, joined by Earl Good and Ruth, who will visit relatives there.
Hon W Dickey Republican nominee for US Senator from Missouri toured Jasper en route to Casaville and Barry County with secretary Taylor and Arthur Killick known as Fatty Lewis. He spoke in Butler and Nevada last weekend to enthusiastic supporters and said he would return after September 1 to thank voters for their primary support.

An ice cream supper is planned for Saturday night at George Arner's in Bethel to benefit Bethel Church. Everyone is invited and asked to bring a guest.
A steady rain fell Tuesday night and persisted through Wednesday noon, marking the first rain since June 5. Rain appears widespread across the area, with rainfall continuing through the day.
The Jasper County A T A picnic will be held at Lakeside on Tuesday August 22 inviting every member of the A H L A of Jasper County to attend and bring a well filled basket for the o clock dinner. Contests and speaking will mark the day. The president and secretary of each A H L A lodge are appointed to invite members and their families with a basket for the basket dinner. Miss Mattie Lee Warner of Dilton Oklahoma visits her aunt Mrs H F Pitts and recalls visiting Jasper two years ago. They plan to travel to Kansas City next week with several friends accompanying them.
Mrs. Gresham hosted a two oclock luncheon at the country home of Mr and Mrs Fred St Gresham. The afternoon featured music with Mesdames J P Leiss and L T McCune at the piano, a duet, and songs of yore. A two course luncheon was served by the hostess and assistants to a large gathering of friends and neighbors including many Greshams and Patterson clan members.
HG Tangnil, Republican nominee for sheriff, thanks Jasper County voters for their support and pledges impartial service if elected. He states no promises of deputyships and vows to hire competent men to provide necessary public service, noting 61 years residency in the county.
Commercial Club members are urged to attend the meeting this evening signaling active local civic engagement and ongoing group activities.
