Rev. E. H. Sapp brought his son John Sapp home from a Joplin hospital yesterday. The young man is making an unusually rapid recovery from a serious surgical operation performed three weeks ago.
Citizens rally Friday to address Jasper's failing electric service. They consider buying the plant or reforming the Empire District arrangement to secure reliable evening lighting, curb coal oil lamp use, and lower costs. A committee of Roberts, Harry Waters, and C L Hayzlett will meet Empire District officials for next steps.
Three day Chautauqua program opens Friday noon August 20 in Jasper with Western Welfare Chautauquans presenting a varied schedule. Prof O W Mason of Jasper Schools leads the tent, speeches include Democracy Divine or Devilish by Dr C C Jesse and a Katharine Carroll Smith Concert Co. Grand closing concert follows. Admission adults 50 cents plus 5 cents tax, juniors 30 cents plus 5 cents. Season tickets available.
A Carthage wedding at 4 p.m. Sunday joined Jerome Woodmansee, son of Mrs. D. C. Houser of Jasper, and Miss Clara Faye Weaver, daughter of Mrs. Wm. Weaver of Carthage. Rev. F. B. Crissman of First M. E. Church led the ceremony. The couple will reside in Carthage where Woodmansee is employed.
