The Ball in the Moonlit Court of Sally and Leffy
A Pennsylvania German tale follows Baumgartner hoping to win property through marriage to Sally Pressel. Seffy Baumgartner, driven by an old guardian’s plan, vies with Sam Fritz for Sally’s hand in a village contest at church. Sally rejects both, exposing social games, rumor, and a ruined wager as public spectacle ends in scorn and broken pride.
