We express gratitude for kindness shown after the death of our husband and father Mr. Wm Busby and for sympathy during the illness and passing of our babe Mr. and Mrs I T Earl thank friends and ask them to use Bee as our line of cuts for stock bills.
Easter services will be held at the M. E. Church South on Sunday April 4 at 11 a.m. Special music and an Easter sermon will be provided. Everyone is cordially invited to attend. C. A. Lewis, pastor.
Barry County resident I Elkins will preach at the Holiness Church Saturday night and Sunday morning and evening. The public is invited to hear Mr Elkins in services.
The Jasper County Dairy Association held its sale at Carthage on Monday with 55 cattle and 6 cows sold, receipts total $500. A J G Bennett Jersey cow, state fair second prize, topped the sale at 225 dollars. Attendees included local farmers and business names. the event marks a first effort and a beginning for annual stock sales to attract buyers from distant points at low cost.
A mass meeting of citizens of the town and school district will be held at Hammond's Hall Saturday night, April 8, to nominate candidates for city and school district tickets. Offices include mayor, collector, treasurer, one councilman per ward, city marshal, police judge, and school directors. A. H. Laughead, Mayor.
Mr and Mrs Huffman of Jasper area mourn the loss of their three months old infant last Friday. The funeral, conducted by Rev H W Pinkston, was held Saturday with burial at Stafford Cemetery. The infant weighed about two pounds at birth and was similar in size at death. The family receives community sympathy.
George Earl found a fish trap in the creek on his place last week. He told The News on Monday that if the owner can identify it, he will return the property, otherwise he would let the owner explain to the game warden if he suspects someone was trapping on his land.
Luther Wescott, a well known young farmer 14 miles southwest of Jasper, sold to Tom Patterson last week seven month old Poland China pigs averaging 192 pounds. The pigs were nearly identical in size weight and appearance from the same litter, pure bred and of the Frank King stock.
J. 8. Thompson and wife and Frank King and wife came back last Saturday from San Francisco and other California points after spending the winter. They report they are all in good health and say Dr. King is doing well in San Francisco.
The high school Sophs and Freshies entertained a full audience at the opera house with a program of music pantomime and a Deestrick Skule sketch. Miss Chace Teeter and Harold Schooler starred in the opening act, with Arthur Hurt selected as teacher. The event boosted the piano fund substantially as the house was packed.
An April 9 program in Jasper presents an Exhibition of Living Pictures under local organizers. About 30 citizens portray historical literary and artistic figures with roughly 20 scenes in the spotlight. Proceeds aid the lyceum fund deficit. the full program is to be announced next week.
F G Nebel formerly of St Louis purchased Quality Bakery and Dirocery in Kt C Vandagriff last week. Nebel, a practical baker, will stay in the room next to the News and implement improvements in the store layout. Vandagriff has not announced his plans.
The Farmer's Elevator announces a meeting on Saturday April 10 at 2 p m to complete the organization of the Mariner's Co operative Elevator Company of Jasper. Subscription blanks held by individuals in school districts must be returned to temporary officers to determine total stock subscribed before the deadline.
At a joint meeting of the school directors and city council on Tuesday night election officials were appointed. School election judges were Wim, Stonehocker, C. A. Lewis with clerks W. R K. Chatten and John Drie. City election judges for first ward included ALO Cline and 10 with clerks J. 2. Dear, Doris, Charles Teeter, Moreby Gleeting. Second ward judges Payytap, Seah Linneon with clerks Glenelrix, Cteris-W. AL Haper, Levi Kitterim.
We Busby aged 51 a long time and respected Jasper resident died at his home last Wednesday after months of illness. Funeral services were held Sunday morning at the Baptist Church with Rev Osborn delivering the sermon and interment in Brethren Cemetery. An extended obituary from a friend in another part of the state was promised for next week.
