Officials eyed state health inspectors to aid grading Jal dairy to Grade A. Dairyman Buffington met the council to pursue Grade A status with few corrections needed. Mercury theft leads to jail for Texas couple
Mrs W E Carver from near Breckenridge Texas was sentenced to thirteen to thirty months for accessory to mercury theft in Lea County. In the same case Judge McGee reversed W E Carver's eleven year theft sentence and filed habitual criminal charges against him. Carver had 350 pounds of mercury at arrest in Albuquerque. both pleaded guilty.

Texas Officers Probe Untaxed Cigarettes At State Line
Texas Safety Department officers stationed on the New Mexico Texas state line between Kermit and Jal checked vehicles entering Texas for untaxed cigarettes and whiskey. Reported bootlegging has cigarettes selling for as low as 1.10 per carton and whiskey also moving across the line. Texas taxes these items and prices are lower in New Mexico.

The group met at the Bender Hotel then spoke at the High School Auditorium where Miles delivered a clean speech highlighting his administration.
