This week profiles R L Myers Jr born May 27 1909 in Lamesa Texas. He studied at McMurray Academy Abilene Texas Texas Tech and Hardin Simmons University earning a Bachelor of Music in 1935 and directing bands in Cleveland Jal and at Texas Tech Anthem arrangements. He married Ruby Cleveland and has a son Robert Louis known as Porkey. He is a longtime church member and works to provide constructive youth activity through music and band programs.

Mrs. O. H. Cutshall Dies at Jal Home

Mrs. O H Cutshall of Jal died at her Jal home on the night of August 26 1938 after a long life that began in Tennessee on June 24 1883 She leaves a husband son and four daughters with four grandchildren and many friends The funeral was conducted by Brother Wood of the Church of Christ in Hobbs with arrangements by Kolar Funeral Home and burial at Hobbs Old Hobbs Ranch Cemetery

Jal Quilting Club Hosts Ocean Wave Quilt

The Jal quilting club met with Mrs. H. S. Weaver as hostess. The ocean wave quilt was partly quilted by pieces, yielding a pretty pattern. Cakes and cool aid were served to Mines Rolding, Brinninstool, Scott, Ely, Chrestman, Irwin, Things, Rhoades, Jones, Rhea, Davis, Hall, Lloyd, Savage, Jones, Andrews and Weaver. Mrs. Ben Lloyd will host the next quilting at Mrs. Ollie Ey’s home.
