R. R. Reynolds has become a scout master of the Jal Boy Scouts after moving from Crane Texas. A meeting of Jal Scouts is set for 6 30 p m today at the Boy Ct Hut inviting interested youths and their fathers along with Cub scouts.
The general election was held November 5 at the school building. Election board members were listed and results show votes for United States Senator Patrick J. Hurley and Dennis Chavez, several congressional candidates, and state officers with tallies such as Mabry 215 and Trujillo 202. County Democrats elected L. W. Jernigan, Claudia Fort, D. C. Berry, and others to county offices including Sheriff, Treasurer, and Superintendent of Schools.
The following teachers plan to attend the State Teachers Convention in Albuquerque New Mexico on November 25 26 and 27 Miss Erma Hon Miss Dor tha Carl Miss Stella Sullivan Miss Catherine Taylor Miss Nell Fite Mrs Hoyt Fellers J L Burke Mrs Burke also plans to attend Mrs Johnny Crook of Clovis plans to accompany Mrs Hoyt Fellers to the convention.
Correction notice from the Hobbs News Sun acknowledges an printing oversight where the notation Paid Political Advertisement was omitted in a prior issue. The error pertains to a political ad and correction steps follow to ensure proper labeling in future editions.
John Fulmer chaired a Rotary Club program where Jean Hearne discussed theatre film processes, noting 90 feet per minute, 14 still pictures per foot, and brief blanking between frames. Ikey Lewis spoke on pharmacy as a universal language and a meeting place of words from many nations, with Egyptian influence on prescriptions.
The two third grade sections under Mrs. Shiplett and Miss Hon will present a chapel program in the auditorium. Kate La Rue Harper’s Tomboy Jo, directed by Mrs. Recer, follows an orphan girl amid a rural mishmash of roles and a wandering tramp. Cast includes Billy Milford Phillips, Betty Diane Lewallen, Jimmy Glendon Claiborne, Bob Jack Wood, Edna Jacquetta Sapp, Dick Billy Kistler, Dorothy Frances Reynolds, Tomboy Jo Breta Foley, Tramp Roy Moore. Everyone is invited.
Mrs. Rees Betty owner operator of Our Drug Store has remodeled the Hobbs location. She removed a partition that separated a Lea County State Bank branch from the drug store area and rearranged show cases. The store is now larger and better looking.
Mr and Mrs C T McKeown continue remodeling their store building formerly Jal Variety Store. The interior is being completely renovated and the front porch is being replaced with brick. Rae remains undetermined due to OCR error.
Mrs. Clarence Armstrong treasurer of Jal Youth Activity Drive reports that $1886.10 in cash donations has been received, with pledges of $235.00 and cash donations still coming in.
John W. Oller of the Veterans Administration in Carlsbad will be at the American Legion Hall in Hobbs every Tuesday to assist area veterans with issues within VA jurisdiction. He cannot travel to Jal due to a large territory and numerous problems.
High school boys named for planned deer hunt in New Mexico mountains this week. The group includes Mac Hadley Sylvester Sims Tony Kendricks Charles Pagan Jack Hirrill Earl Montgomery George Montgomery Sherman Lenning David Baum Frank Lee Barking Glenn Elliot and Joe Ed Cren welge. Hunt results will publish in the next issue of the Jal Flare.

At a November 4 meeting the Chamber formed a committee including Dr. J. T. Brady Sam Carlini John Curtis C R Fussell and John Benton to investigate building sites and initial civic project issues. Delma Buffington returned from Texas Tech and attended the Hobbs Jal game in Hobbs.
A report notes Pas, after participating in events, joined Texas football figures in Kermit for an appearance and discussion.
G M Shiplet high school history teacher spoke on United Nations at a Jal Rotary Club event. He outlined UN aims to keep and maintain peace and explained structures including General Assembly Security Council and International Court.
Lewis Curry is building a five room cement block house two blocks west of the Assembly of God Church. Doyle McCoy began the project but sold unfinished work to Curry. The home will have a bath, hardwood floors, stucco exterior and plastered interior. Curry expects completion in two months.
Two Jat men reported a small herd of antelope near the extinct town site of Cooper. Mr S R Cooper says they may have strayed from Sandsamone Ranch due to being shot at. A $500 fine is cited for shooting at them.
Mr and Mrs R I Creed of Silver City New Mexico visit Mr and Mrs R B Walker, the Walkers parents. They may stay a couple of weeks while Mr Creed recovers from a broken arm suffered at work.
At the Lambda Chapter meeting on November 2 an English visitor, Mrs Wick, lectured on England Between My Wars. She described middle class childrearing by governesses, separate schooling for boys and girls, school ages five to sixteen or seventeen, uniforms, and limits on makeup and hair. She noted few English women attend college unless teaching.
Congratulations go to Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Madera on the birth of daughter Katherine Ross October 18 at Kermit hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Requa welcomed daughter Annette Louise October 29 at Kermit hospital. Mrs. Requa and Annette have returned home to a new residence. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Johnson welcomed son James Afien October 23 at Kermit hospital. The baby’s father works as a light operator for El Paso Natural Gas Company.
Ila Foley purchased Fay Wink's newsstand in Portales. Wan da Elizabeth Lasater becomes manager. Foley, a 17 year Portales resident, previously worked as dispatcher for El Paso Natural Gas Co.
Bago Testios Justice is recovering from a serious heart ailment after hospital stay in Kermit. He has returned home and is under care, with continuing medical attention expected.
