Banquet and dances honor Company M soldiers in Jackson

The third entertainment in a series honoring Company M and bidding them farewell was held Friday at the W. O. W. Hall with elaborate decorations and a three course banquet. Richard Winger led the toast program as master of ceremonies with toasts to Our Flag Our Boys Our Country and The Folks at Home. L. R. Kessler sang with Gertrude Redmond at the piano. Afterward a large crowd gathered at the Club House for a dance to aid the mess fund, followed by a midnight farewell address from Captain W. C. Delaney. Sunday featured a dinner at the Reed home for enlisted boys and more toasts, music by the Bowlin family and Mr. Kessler, and further gatherings by the local IOOF lodge and Go. M. members with speeches, songs, and refreshments. The community has shown strong support for the volunteers, who value the hospitality of those at home. Robert S. Dalley, formerly of the Courier, visited Jackson and Wilson earlier in the week.

Lincoln County Draft List Shows Eighteen Men Named

The list records eighteen Lincoln County men drawn in a Washington test drawing. Names include John Carollo Glencoe and Joseph Endrizze Sublet, with serial numbers and birthplaces. Other entries list Stataokoros Dionistus Sublet and Heber Calvin Porter Auburn, among several from Cumberland and Sage. Local updates note Grovant merchant freight, a lost work horse, and a church service with Bishop May as speaker. Mrs James May required hospital care after a broken foot X ray in Idaho Walls.

Balcom returns to lead Arapahoe mission

Rev. R. H. Balcom arrived from Wind River to take charge of St. Michaels Mission among the Arapaho. He plans a brief stay to pack and return to the reservation, accompanied by two Arapahoe helpers Jack Shavehead and Tom Crispin. Balcom reports promising early responses from the Indians and enthusiasm at the new post.

Company M at War Strength to Train at Camp Fremont

Report notes Company M has furnished entent, orders to depart for Camp Fremont California soon. Headquarters at Jackson, mobilization awaits training at Fremont. Captain Delaney has men assembled in Jackson with field routine underway at Frontier grounds. Temporary lineup lists sergeants corporals and musicians. Waldo Haynes attached as temporary 2nd Lieutenant.

Married Walker and Keown celebrate July wedding in La Grande

Das 1 Walker, formerly a jovial blacksmith from Jacksons Town Wyoming, married Jill Keown on July 3 1917 in La Grande. They spent their wedding night at Ladd Canyon with Mrs Peabler sister of Mr Walker. Mrs Walker long resident of Imbler ran Keown restaurant. many wart friends extend congratulations and invite meals.

Indefinite stay and local notices after storm

Miss Maude Smith visited Wednesday evening for an indefinite stay. Uncle Bill Bierer arrived from Grovont canyon. An electrical storm Tuesday night caused Holiday Manor to lose a mare and colt, and John Anderson lost two cows. Fuller Orchestra invites the public to a dance July 31 in honor of Company M.
