All Women to Register July 17 for War Service

The State Council for National Defense schedules a statewide registration of women on July 17 for the Food Administration and war service. One registrar per precinct will oversee polling places in Jackson Hole and Alta precincts, listing names and locations from Mrs. Raland Brown to Mrs. B. L. Coulter. Two blanks will be used: a pledge to Mr Hoover and a card for war service duties such as nursing, driving, and clerical work.

Proclamation Proclaims Wyoming Women’s Day for War Service

In 1917 Wyoming announces Tuesday July 17 as Women’s Day to register for war service. Governor Frank L. Houx urges women to participate through home precinct registration under the Wyoming Council for National Defense. This mobilization aims to support the nation’s war effort and defend democratic ideals.

A fair sized crowd gathered in Kelly for the Fourth dance. Miss Cora Smith of Salt Lake City visits the Smiths. J W Nixon Chester Stan and Ray Golden fished at Moran and Pacific Creek. Al Sellers leaves Antelope Springs for Jarbridge with family. Mrs T B Murphy improves after baths at Lava Hot Springs. Ranchers near Grovont rebuild a bridge on a new road by Black Tatl Butte. Road work by Adams continues toward Grovont. Lumber hauled from Starrett's mill to build Ditch Creek bridge. Families host phcilic dinners at Antelope Springs and near Kafferlin ranch. Some fish, others attend events at Jenny's Lake. Victor Harberdt, former Hotel resident, now Denwa State Museum curator, plans visit. James Budge hosts a celebration with a dance at Jenny's Lake. G D Keyser to build a large house on Dog Creek with George Lamb supervising. Keyser with Forest Service employs seventeen to grub larkspur and aconite, spending over a thousand dollars. Last year Keyser lost eleven cattle to poisoning.

Wyoming National Guard to Palo Alto mobilization

The Wyoming National Guard and joint units from Idaho and Montana plan a July 2 departure for Palo Alto California, replacing American Lake as mobilization site. Jackson headquarters will host Co W with 25 men from Jackson Hole named, several others awaiting examination, commissions issued to Lt W C Deloney for Co M, and two privates preparing to mobilize or travel for home visits.

John Erwin Passes Away in Jacksons Hole Area

John B. Erwin longtime Jacksons Hole resident and former Lincoln County Commissioner died Wednesday after a long stomach illness. He helped steer early county affairs and was highly regarded in local public life. He leaves sons Howard and a daughter Mrs Kafferlin, two grandchildren and a brother George Erwin, with burial planned in Monroe Wisconsin alongside other relatives. The body was sent by rail via ToVon Pass and undertaker arranged.
