Cattlemen Offer Plan To Settle Elk And Range Question

In Ogden the Jacksons Hole Horse and Cattle association advisory board proposed a plan to the Biological Survey and Forest Service to care for elk by ranchers in exchange for grazing and other privileges. The proposal includes buying nine swamp ranches totaling 2,880 acres and feeding hay to elk in winter, with land to be returned to government agencies when reimbursed. The plan was amended to exclude high elk range from Elk Reserve No 2, leaving only snow-free open slopes. Local officials and Nowlin of the Biological Survey endorsed it, and ranchers across the valley voiced support, signaling a unified, practical approach to the elk cattle dispute.
