State convention visit boosts local delegates and laughs
A group of thirteen from Maquoketa traveled overland to Dubuque for the annual state convention of the order. Delegates numbered sixteen with a festive reception by the Dubuque union, Commercial Club, and others. Notable addresses by Anna Gordon and Culla Vineyard accompanied tobacco study films, songs by an 83 year old soloist, and a phonograph accompaniment. The return included visits to a study center and Cedar Falls faculty talks, a picnic lunch, and a successful crossing of the superstition about unlucky thirteen. One Who Was There.
