Coal output in Iowa runs one third below normal
Iowa coal production sits at about one third of normal per Geo Heaps secretary of the Iowa Coal Operators association. Heaps cites mild winter and weak industrial demand as factors with factories closed or reduced output and rail traffic down, yet nationwide conditions mirror the downturn. A Sunday note adds that button plant openings may resume with local workers urged to inquire about positions.
