Climate and Crop Bulletin of Missouri Week Ending September 25
The week was unusually cool with temperatures 8 to 14 degrees below normal. Moderate rains fell in central and northern areas and parts of the southeast. much of the state saw light rainfall. Frosts on the 8th 10th and 11th damaged tender crops. tomatoes sweet potatoes sorghum and cowpeas suffered. Much corn is in shock though some northern counties report late corn damaged. Fall seeding advances. soil generally good except eastern counties with dry ground. Wheat and rye acreage expected. some wheat up and looking fine in northern and western areas. Cotton picking active in southeast amid picker shortages. Pastures improving but stock feeding remains heavy especially east. Stock water scarce in many places. Cow peas harvested in southeast. good crop. Apples dropping in some districts but many fine, late peaches also good. Apple gathering underway. In western counties many apples blown by high winds.
