McLain Barn Lost to Fire in West Jackson
Lightning struck J. F. McLain's West Jackson barn early Sunday, destroying the structure and its contents. A horse escaped. two buggies, 200 bushels of corn, harness and tools were lost alongside a chicken house and several chickens. The barn was insured for 150 dollars. Other area barns were destroyed by lightning in Tilist Millerville and near Jackson, all on the same night.

Cotner and Clippard band to play at Neelys Landing on the 13th for a dance and ice cream supper. Harry Cotner travels to the Cape for Normal. Harlan Reid, formerly at the Cape box factory, is back home. Clark Reed will teach at New Wells. John Howard and wife visited town last Saturday. Roy Stevenson, a Normal graduate, will teach this year.

Daisy Parties Arrested for Disturbing Peace
Monroe Crites Dan Freese and Tom Parks three youths near Daisy traveled to Friedheim about two weeks ago drank 48 bottles and paid for them on the way home caused neighborly disturbance and cut off John Freese horse tail. They faced Squire Hahs Daisy then venue change and $200 bond. Trial before Squire Geo Miller at Millerville resulted in not guilty verdict by the jury.

Spokane residents from Missouri have organized the Show Me club of the Inland Empire for the Pacific Northwest. F B Wright chairs and Leo Walton serves as secretary. The first annual meeting is Sept 24 at Spokane Interstate fair grounds with expected attendance from across the district. A postal census notes representation from every Missouri county. The club will award a large silver cup to the state with the most residents in the area. over 5,000 Missourians live here. Members work in farming, orcharding, mining, and lumbering.

Jackson Military Academy Opens Its Doors
The Jackson Military Academy reports the largest attendance in its history with a fine cohort from many states. Rev. Ross opened the sessions followed by Rev. Haw. The cadets will host a reception at the McCombs home. Visitors include W. W. Hellipeter and sons, Paul Evans, Melburn McGranahan, and others. The dining hall, football and brass band are features, with plans for a dramatic club and winter events. Major Park Powell oversees the Modern Language Department and Lieut. Col. Lowridge leads cadets in improved drill. Coal sales nationwide are noted, and a tragic accident in St Francois county ends a boy’s life.
