District conference brings rigged procession to McKendree Chapel
During the district conference session a crowd hitched up rigs and moved twenty preachers to McKen dree Chapel. Pat Williams photographed the group around the pulpit as the old church, now belonging to this district, is noted as the oldest west of the Mississippi. Rev. I. H. Sweetland of Doe Run is delivering strong sermons.

County Court Allocates Funds and Approves Road Plans
The county court appropriated thirty four dollars to improve the old Indian road from Friedheim to Hillbrand and raised a like sum locally. Reports from the August grand jury were read and filed. County Treasurer John Putz presented revenue figures and various payrolls. Highway engineers urged larger culverts on Iron Mountain and other roads. Concrete culverts were ordered for multiple roads. Bids for court house coal and jail wood were to be sought by September 28. resignations and appointments in road districts were recorded. A farmers’ petition sought state board cooperation for a Drabee Chapel road meeting in Jackson.

Stock Show and School News from Local Reunion
The Cape Girardeau County Stock Breeders Show and Sale Association held its first annual show and sale during the Home-Comers' Reunion. The stock show drew praise for quality, though not all premiums went to all. Two Shorthorn bulls from P J Parkins of Fredericktown were purchased by local buyers to improve regional cattle. Also, the Jackson Board of Education adopted a policy requiring eighteen weeks for Beginners in the Primary Department, with proof of age. School opened with 319 total and 65 in High School. parents are encouraged to visit.

First Annual Farmington Fair Opens October in Farmington
The Southeast Missouri Fair Association stages the first annual Fair of the Southet Missouri Fair Association in Farmington October 12 to 16. The district fair plans, with about 20 acres of land near the city and an amphitheater, offer nearly 2500 in premiums and 1500 in racing purses for running, pacing and trotting events. Premiums cover show horses, cattle, hogs, sheep, poultry, mules, jacks and jennets, farm and domestic products and more. Hotel rates will be arranged to ensure fair access and fair treatment. secretary R. M. Talbert is available for information.
