Roll of Honor at Jackson Public Schools Ninth Month

The Roll of Honor lists pupils across High School and Lincoln and other grades for perfect attendance, excellent deportment, and high scholarship. Blizzard Hits Western Texas Stuns Ranchers

A severe blizzard struck the western Texas region from the Panhandle to the Rio Grande, bringing snow and hail. About ten thousand cattle perished on the range, with losses pegged at two million two hundred thousand dollars. Snow also fell in New Mexico.

Nancy Ann Turnbaugh Celebrates 88th Birthday in Jackson

Mrs. Nancy Ann Turnbaugh marked her 88th birthday at her daughter Mrs. F A Obermiller’s home. Born in Brookville Indiana in 1822, she moved to Illinois as a child, married at 14, then moved to Jackson in 1850 where she lived ever since. Her husband died in 1872 and she raised thirteen children, now with several surviving, including Dr T B Turnbaugh of Bloomfield Missouri and Mrs James F Brooks of Cape Girardeau.

Local society notes and weather damage in Southeast Missouri

L A Goodwin left Tuesday on a business trip through Southeast Missouri inspecting poultry houses of Goodwin and Jean. Dr Glenn Seibert and family visited his mother in St Louis. The High School picnicked at Byrds Creek with several chaperones. The Presbyterian Ladies Aid Society met with local hosts. Rev Charles E Stokes spoke on prohibition in the Baptist church. Miss Lulu Chailland and brother Roland returned home with Miss Bessie Taylor. Rain Sunday evening caused damage to fences bridges and roads. the electrical display drew attention. The McAtee Mercantile Co suit note is clarified.

Malden infested by sneak thieves and tornado wrecks Cairo

Southeast Notes reports thefts in Malden and a Sunday night tornado striking Cairo causing several houses damaged with no injuries. A fire at W R Hall’s Shipley store last Saturday destroyed it with losses estimated five to six thousand dollars and two thousand five hundred insured. A June 14 local option election is set for Caruthersville, and Pemiscot county voted dry four years ago outside Caruthersville. The Southeast Missouri Press Association meets June 15 at Cape Girardeau with the State Editorial Association. Claude B Hays, charged with Dr L W Hart murder, was released on five thousand dollar bond awaiting circuit court. Geo W Michael of Campbell challenges J J Russell to a joint Democatic primary debate. Russell declines. Prof Harold Mead of Carleton College had his jaw broken playing baseball last Friday while running to first base.
