School questions and public education in Jackson Missouri

Missouri Railroads Hit Three Cents Per Mile Rule

Supreme court decision allows railroads in Missouri to charge three cents a mile. Hadley indicates the case may go to the United States Supreme Court. Also, the wife of Congressman Charles A Crow died at her Caruthersville home last Thursday.

Sedalia Central College items spur many new typewriters

Central Business College Sedalia Mo reports strong demand for shorthand, telegraphy, and business courses. They ordered twenty five Underwood typewriters to meet high enrollment as many pupils secured positions in shorthand, bookkeeping, and telegraphy. Governor Hadley seeks higher saloon licenses in Missouri

Jefferson City notes Governor Hadley has asked St. Louis excise commissioner to levy an extra 100 a year on each saloon license in the city. County courts may also raise license taxes for state, county, and local purposes, with city or town levies on top. Details show varying license taxes by city, county, and state, and the governor’s stance on enforcing liquor laws and reducing brewer influence.
