The Jackson Board of Aldermen on December 2, 1907 resolved to macadamize First North Street from Third East Street to the Cape Girardeau and Chester railroad right of way with guttering and curbing. Conductor Hugh Barker Killed In Mt Vernon Yard Accident
Hugh Barker a 37 year old conductor on the W C and W passenger train from Chester died after being crushed between cars in Mt Vernon yards last Saturday morning. He fell while setting a brake and the heavy crushed stone car passed over his legs. Barker leaves a widow a son and a mother and brothers. Tribune Chester Illinois. Mrs Barker is a sister of Mrs J E Sibley of this city.
