Obtaining Government Land Without Residence
An advertisement explains a method to acquire title to government timber or agricultural land without living on it by purchasing old US Government Land certificates. Certificates, issued until 1883, are scarce. H. B. Sanders & Co. in Salt Lake City offer 80 and 120 acre pieces at $25 per acre, valid nationwide with government approval letters. The notice cites 75 million acres unappropriated in Oregon, Washington, California, and Idaho as open for entry.
