The fall weather has been ideal and cotton is near gathered but below average. About 60 percent of an average corn crop will be harvested on uplands. Aldridge and Rutledge large gin and saw mill activity. Local residents and visitors are noted, schools to open November 6. A political spark mentions the 7th as a pivotal date, praising Wilson and predicting strong opposition to Hughes.
Ivka High School senior class will stage a three act comedy Bess Goes to Europe next Friday evening with instrumental and vocal music between acts. Proceeds benefit the school. Admission adults 25 cents children 15 cents. Supporters urged to attend and show home talent loyalty.
A festive Progressive Halloween dinner hosted by the Bock Club delighted young attendees. Courses at Miss McKnight, Miss Reed, Miss Powell, and Miss Jackson featured Halloween decorations, fortune telling, ghosts, jack o lanterns, black cats, and pumpkin pie contests enhancing the entertainment.
After an illness of about seven months, MreT Brown died at 4 30 p m on October 25 1916 at age 68 years 8 months and 12 days. Born near Rienes Mississippi he lived in Prentiss county near Booneville and moved 24 years ago to Inka where he ran a mercantile business. He helped build the Baptist church at Inka and was valued as a citizen. He leaves a wife two children and many friends. Grand memory from JM Turner.
The Brown family thanks neighbors and friends for affectionate attentiveness and comfort during the recent bereavement and death of their husband and father. They acknowledge the floral designs as a sincere sign of sympathy and express gratitude from Mrs T L Brown and family.
The Thursday Club met at Mrs Copeland's home to map the year with current events and modern drama as topics. Members discussed Argentina and other Americas, welcomed new regular and associate members, and celebrated Mrs Neblett’s prize winning musical piece Eventide.
