An old advertisement warns calomel poisons the liver and bones and promises a safe alternative with Dodson's Liver Tone. The copy urges readers to avoid salivation and sickness, claiming the vegetable formula cleanses bile and bowels, guarantees relief by morning, and suits the whole family including children.
On the first Monday of April 1916 I will sell to the highest bidder in front of the Court House door in Tika Mississippi for cash the property described as unpaid taxes for the year 1915. J D Erwin Marshal and Tax Collector.
From Whitton Arkansas the writer plans a morning chat with the editor noting good health despite cold spells and mud. They claim land yields from a bale to a bale and a half per acre and mention travels to Jonesboro and Memphis, with Sunday School at Kerr school house and preaching twice a month.
For a short time new paid in advance subscribers and those who pay for a year in advance receive ten five cent packages of select garden seed from RB Buchanan of Memphis. The seed are advertised as very best.
The Vidette notes available scholarships at Memphis Business College and Wheeler Business College in Birmingham Alabama. It promotes business training to boost earning capacity with demand for stenographers and bookkeepers.
A devotional prayer asking for guidance patience and strength. The author seeks purity humility and protection, asking God to keep thoughts and actions clean and to lead the speaker through trials and pain. The piece ends with a calm plea for safety and conscience as they sleep Amen.
Dennis Route 3 sends a letter to the Vidette with community news. Illness includes Davy Cornelius pneumonia and others on the sick list. Mt Pleasant church had a large crowd and will host services again in April. A well attended Mt Pleasant school concert and Pleasant Grove school closing are noted. Several residents visit or travel, among them Lancaster Short, Alvil Mason, Dee Pardue, Monroe Frederick, George Cranchy, and Dr KF McRae who bought four new cars. A musical entertainment at Gid Hills drew good crowds.
Health is good and roads are improving in Route 3 as farmers clear land and local events, including a Snowdown school concert and a Pleasant Hill youth gathering, bring activity. Mourning follows the death of Jim Randolph shot and buried in Margerum cemetery. many local names appear in social visits and church sermons.
