Through the women and girls club mothers and daughters are being trained to help themselves. The club promotes cooperation and education advancing home life, loyalty, and civic participation as women balance individual and family needs with wise use of leisure and effort.
A discussion argues women should pursue skilled occupations to gain self support, social understanding, intellectual growth, ethical courage, and aesthetic insight. It favors deliberate career preparation before marriage, equitable income sharing with spouses, and a later return to work in middle age. The piece also notes the Parent Teachers Association meeting Friday at 3 00 at the Public School auditorium with all invited.
Born and raised in the county Gravette, about forty, enters his first county election. Former Iuka marshal, praised as brave and efficient, he pledges honest duty, strict law enforcement, and a thorough primary canvass. He is a Baptist, Mason and Woodman, a farmer and timberman now in the sawmill business near Luka, asking voters for support.
The Senior Play Hearts of Men at the school house drew a good crowd and about sixty dollars was raised. Miss Mayme and Bonnye Bick erstaff returned from Alabama where they taught. Tishomingo students will receive high school certificates after completing all grade work and passing exams. Rev T W Young of Corinth will preach the commencement sermon for the Agricultural High School, and Dr W Murphy of the University of Mississippi will deliver the graduation address in April. A Memphis Business College scholarship and a Wheeler's Business College scholarship in Birmingham are for sale.
On Monday March 5 the Dennis Club re organized and elected officers for 1923 Mrs A D Whitfield was named President with Chas Flurry as Vice President T O Linsday as Reporter and L P Campbell as Secretary The meeting featured County Demonstrator Miss Mae Cooper who spoke on club interests and promised monthly visits with the first week in each month for instruction and help Mrs T O Bruton reports community interest grows.
W T Bazzel announces candidacy for re election to the House after a first term. A native of the county he grew up on a farm and has taught locally. He has led Iuka circuits of the North Mississippi Conference and touts his record of serving constituents. He asks for support in the August primary.
Methodists urge timely collection of overdue pledges to fund church work and mission fields. The reorganized Centenary Committee asks donors to deliver funds to Mrs Maggie Whitten, Local Centenary Treasurer, to avoid suspending church buildings and Kingdom work. Members include C W McKnight, T Ross, T M Jourdan, F T Carmack, R M Sparks, J C Jourdan Sr, Walter W Jones.
